Art First Welcomes Darren Barnes

In April 2013, Art First Gallery welcomed its newest member Darren Barnes. Darren is a Fredericksburg, VA based artist and he is very excited to be presenting his work at Art First Gallery. FCCA May Exhibit - Lines and Edges

In the May 2013 National Juried Exhibit, “Lines and Edges,” at the Fredericksburg Center for the Creative Arts, Barbara Taylor Hall won second place for her mixed-media painting, “Connections II,” and Ana Rendich was awarded 3rd place for “Succession of Events,” her mixed-media painting. The juror was Allison Long Hardy, an artist, adjunct professor and gallery professor at the University of Richmond.

EXHIBITIONS

Barbara Taylor Hall

Barbara Taylor Hall’s painting, “Renewal,” was juried into the radius250 Biennial for 2013. The exhibit will be in artspace, one of the most beautiful gallery spaces in Richmond, Va., located in the Manchester Arts District, just across the James River from Shockoe Bottom. This major art show will feature artists working within a 250-mile radius of Richmond. Juror, N. Elizabeth Schlatter is the Deputy Director and Curator of Exhibitions at the University of Richmond Museums. The opening is on June 28, from 7-10 pm. The show will run until August 18, 2013.

Robyn Ryan’s Acrylic Layers painting “Nuthatch I” has been accepted into the Virginia Mennonite Retirement Community (VMRC) 10th National Annual Juried Multimedia Art Exhibition, in Harrisonburg, VA.  “Nuthatch I” was one of 103 accepted entries out of 457 entries submitted by 170 artists representing 29 states.  The exhibit is on display at the Parks Gables Gallery 10:00 am – 7:00 pm on weekdays and 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm Saturday and Sunday from May 26 – June 30. See other works from Robyn’s “Fleeting Glimpses” series at her website www.robynryanart.com/category/recent-work.

Guerin Wolf

Guerin Wolf is excited to announce his first Solo Exhibition which will be in the Atrium Gallery at the Central Rappahannock Library Headquarters for the month of June. Opening Reception to meet the artist and enjoy refreshments and hors d'oeuvres on Saturday June 1 from 6:00 pm until 8:30 pm.

  • Cathy Herndon will have new paintings at the Purcell Gallery of the Louisa Art Center in Louisa, Virginia.  Her work is included in the "8 Exposures" show of local art group Exposure Unlimited. (John Nichols, David Lovegrove, Paula Rose, Betsy Glassie, Joan Limbrick, Reta Robbins, Bob Worthy, Cathy Herndon). "Rocks-Ha Long Bay" (pictured left) will be included in this exhibit. The opening reception is July 26 at 6:30 pm.
  • Cathy is also showing "Singapore" (pictured right) in July with another art group.  Members of the book Drawn Together will be showing at the CRRL Library downtown for the month of July.  Members are:  Robyn Ryan, Ruth Loving, Nancy Brittle, Cathy Herndon, Johnny Johnson, Elizabeth Butler, Audrey Bruno, Beverly Coates, Jane Snead, and Norma Starkweather.

Lynn Mehta will be participating in two plein air competitions:

  • Easels in Frederick, as a juried artist painting throughout Frederick County, MD. June 18-22. Grand Exhibition at The Talley Rec Center (Old Armory), Frederick, MD: June 21-22.
  • Paint Annapolis, as a juried artist painting in Annapolis, MD, June 25-29. Paintings on Exhibit at Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts, Annapolis, MD: June 30 - July 14.

Lynn Mehta will also be participating in a three person show. "Water Work" paintings of Lynn Mehta, Sally V. Parker, Barbara Stepura at Harmony Hall Regional Center, Fort Washington, MD. Reception for the artists Sat., June 15 3-5 pm. Exhibit runs June 10 - August 2.

CLASSES

Sculpture Workshop with Robyn Ryan

Robyn Ryan is teaching a 2-day sculpture workshop for the Virginia Equine Artists Association (VEAA) in Manakin Sabot, VA 1-2 June.  She will be teaching two other workshops for the VEAA this summer, both at the Backdoor Gallery in Fredericksburg.  One is a one-day watercolor workshop on July 20 and the other is another session of her two-day Sculpture workshop August 10 and 11.   Non-members are also welcome to attend, contact Robyn for more information (robyn@robynryanart.com).  Additional information about these workshops is available at her website (www.robynryanart.com/about-robyn/teaching/).
