For me, the process of creation started with my first box of crayons many years ago. I have always been fascinated by different mediums and the diverse possibilities for expression each new one promises. Thus, in the beginning, it is often all about the medium. I pick my subject by how I perceive it will work with the selected medium. However, somewhere during the creative process it becomes more about the subject, and I seek to let it tell its story. Toward the end, I begin focusing on emotions. The process is finally finished when I feel the picture says something worth saying. My grandson asked how I knew when a picture was finished; I answered, ‘when I like it’. This sounds easy, but generally, it’s the hard part.
